"Fats" Waller - note on files "WALREF" is the Waller general bibliography. It includes dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc. It also includes some histories of jazz "WALCMP" is the list of Waller's compositions. A major source for this list was Maurice Waller's book about his father, Fats. "WALARL" is one of my largest files. It includes periodical articles on Fats Waller and on Stride piano playing, ranging from scholarly articles on Fat's manipulation of song lyrics to one-page reminiscences of Fats by his friends. "WALREV" is a continuation of this file, but it contains only record reviews of Fat's work. Major sources for these files included the Arts and Humanities Citation Index and the Music Index. Some articles were listed in the bibliographies of other articles. "WALDSC" is Waller's extensive discography. The most valuable source for this discography was Paul Machlin's Stride: The Music of Fats Waller, which has an impressive discography. This bibliography is not complete. LEP 5/90
