SONNOT SONBIB contains books, periodicals, recordings, and scores which are pertinent to my discussion of Stephen Sondheim. Some books contain much more information than others, but I chose the ones I found to be most relevant. The recordings will be used in class more than in the paper. SONREF contains all the sources I could find even mention Sondheim, whether I used them or not. I thought this necessary to be truly complete. The sources are there for anyone who needs to look for them in the future. Several complete computer searches, including many cross-references, aided this process. SONBOK contains the two books I could find that are about Sondheim alone. There are many that include him, but only two about him alone. This is what several computer searches revealed. SONCMP contains all of Sondheim's compositions as listed in the complete OCLC Search for which I sent. I assume this is complete, since it is a national search. SONWRI contains Sondheim's writings. He did not write any books by himself, but I have included chapters in books and essays which he penned that were included in other books. SONDIS contains all dissertations and theses that I could find in all volumes of the Dissertation Abstract, as well as all volumes of the Music Index. Some cross-referencing from books assisted in this process. SONDSC contains all recordings that use any of his work (lyrics or music). This was done through a complete OCLC Search, so I assume this is complete since it was a national search. SONPER contains all articles in which Sondheim is mentioned in all available volumes of the Music Index. Some cross-referencing aided in this process. SONNSP SONBOM contains all books in UNC-Greensboro, UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke, and North Carolina State that were available for me to check if Sondheim was mentioned. All books, however limited the information regarding Sondheim is, are cited. The most important ones are listed in SONSBIB. Complete computer searches, with many cross-references, aided this process.
