Jerry Herman - note on files This bibliography project covers the life and music of the American Broadway composer Jerry Herman. The files that have been included are as follows: HERBOM-This file contains all of the general sources found that mention Jerry Herman or his musicals. In addition to this information, this list includes sources that talk about some of the well known artists that sang or recorded some of his songs. HERARL-This file contains all of the periodicals that can be found dealing with Herman or his musicals. There are some reviews included, but most of the reviews for his musicals can be found in the series New York Theatre Critics Reviews by Joan Marlowe. (Included in HERSBIB) This multi-volume work contains reviews from all of the major newspapers and magazines in New York. Since these reviews, which number in the hundreds, are listed in their entirety in this series, they have been omitted from this list. HERNSP-This file contains unsigned periodical articles. Again, there are some reviews, but those found in the New York Theatre Critics Reviews series have been omitted. HERDSC-This file contains a complete discography of the works of Jerry Herman. There are some works which have numerous recordings, most of which are re-issues of the original cast recording. Of special interest are the foreign recordings of some of the musicals. Since the song "Hello, Dolly!" became so popular, there are over 100 recordings world-wide which contain this title cut. Because of the enormity of this task, only the most significant ones released close to the show's first run are included. The recordings are listed in alphabetical order by the name of the musical and includes a listing of the songs that were recorded on the albums. Any differences are noted within the individual entry. HERCMP-This file contains a listing of Herman's compositions and the published librettos and scores that have been published. Many of the works do not have any published materials, so they are just listed by name. The works are listed in alphabetical order by the name of the musical. HERDIS-This file contains a listing of theses and dissertations that are about Herman. In this case, there are no documents that are about Jerry Herman specifically, but there were some that dealt with some of his compositions. The following files were not included: HERHIST-Since there were no sources that contained any lengthy information about Jerry Herman, this category was not used. All sources are included in the HERGEN file. HERBIB-This file was not included as there are no sources that deal only with Jerry Herman. HERWRI-I was unable to find any writings by Jerry Herman.
