Howard Hanson - note on files HANARL, HANBOK, HANBOM, HANCMP, HANDIS, HANNSP, HANREF, HANUPB, HANWRI A majority of the sources listed were obtained from the dissertation written by Robert Monroe which was obtained from Ann Arbor, Michigan. This was obtained through a computer search and inter-library loan. Sources that are dated after 1970, the date of the dissertation, were obtained from other sources. Some sources led to others as they were obtained from bibliographies listed within articles. The listing of compositions was derived from many sources including Monroe's dissertation, Band Music Notes and from the bibliographies of other sources. Hanson's main publisher was Carl Fischer, Inc., although quite a few tunes are listed as either manuscript or lost. The listing in the discography was obtained from the dissertation as well as Carol Oja's American Music Recordings: A Discography of 20th-Century U.S. Composers published by Koussevitzky Music Foundation, Inc., in 1982.
