Richard Franko Goldman - bio Richard Franko Goldman was born in New York City on December 7, 1910. He was musically trained at Columbia College graduating with honors in 1930 and after graduation continued his training with Boulanger, Wallingford, and Reigger. Richard is most closely associated with his father, Edwin Franko Goldman and the Goldman Band. Richard assumed the role of associate conductor of the Goldman Band in 1937 and remained in that position until 1955 when his father died. Feeling the responsibility to continue his father's legacy, Richard became full time conductor of the Goldman Band from 1955 to 1979. While being a full time conductor, Richard also wrote numerous books, articles, and reviews about band administration, band literature, and performances. He is well known for being the champion of many original works for band, a life-long pursuit. In addition, Richard contributed several of his own compositions to the band's repertoire. Richard died in Baltimore in 1980 DK 4/03
