ACLS - American Council of Learned Societies

American Music Center - is a clearing house for information about American composers, music, etc. It sponsors the annual American Music Week and publishes a monthly newsletter. Their Web site contains considerable information including a collection of homepages for its composer-members.

American Music Research Center - houses a specialized reference library and has produced lectures, and workshops, etc. It started at Dominican College, San Rafael, CA. In 1991, the center was moved to Grusin Music Hall of the University of Colorado at Boulder.

ASCAP - The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers - is the oldest of the three royalty/licensing organizations for American music (BMI and SESAC are the others). Recently they began offering an on-line search engine for their millions of registered compositions.

ASOL - The American Symphony Orchestra League is the official organzation of American Orchestras. It publishes a monthly journal, Symphony, and sponsors annual meetings. ASOL is one of several members of AAA, the American Arts Alliance.

Smithsonian Institution: Lots or memoribilia; publishes many bulletins, record anthology collections, etc.; recently took over the Folkways record label, the largest recorded collection of folk and modern music.
